| If you want to hunt
Black Bear, our Chinchaga River area is among the most highly populated
bear areas in Canada, providing quality trophies of massive size and color
variety. This remote area is about 800 miles from the Alberta-Montana border,
or about 400 miles from Edmonton. It provides new territory that has not
yet been pressured by other hunters, and we are continually scouting for
prime active sites. You can expect a black bear trophy of impressive size in our Wildlife Management Unit 524. Our hunters are allowed 2 black bears on their license. If you are lucky you may even spot a grizzly on a hillside. This is an archery hunter's paradise. I will take a maximum of 4 archery hunters to be sure of trophy-sized success. If a unique color phase is what you're looking for, previous harvests have shown that approximately 40% are colors other than black, which can range from creamy blonde to rich chocolate brown. To get your trophy spring bear, we will travel by vehicle to our active bear areas. Hunting their feeding sites has proven successful, with shots ranging to about 100 yards. We may utilize tree stands or ground blinds. There are endless game trails due to the abundance of the black bears' preferred foods in this area. We utilize these prime spring times by scouting areas in advance and finding the main feeding locations, so that they are ready and waiting for your hunt to begin. We
will hunt all day (we provide a boxed lunch), returning to camp in the evening.
Staying out hunting all day gives us the best bear hunting advantages for
record trophies. We hunt our spring black bear only during the month of May. Bears taken in the spring give you the best quality rugs and mounts. Our cold winters provide beautiful thick and glossy coats. Hunter Success For Black Bear: Hunters should expect 100% on the first black bear and 75% on the second trophy black bear. Average sizes are 6 feet long plus, and average weights range from 250 to 350 pounds. Several larger bears have been taken each season. |
| Bear Camp
consists of 14'x16' insulated pony wall tents with wood floors. Each
cabin has single beds with mattresses, propane lights, wood furnace, and
a sink for washing . We only sleep 2 per tent. We offer a hearty breakfast
before our hunt and a huge supper when we return at the end of our day.
We hunt all day, so mid-day lunches are in the field, or a hot lunch is
available if preferred. You will find our camp to be a comfortable and relaxing
place to stay after a fulfulling day of hunting. Be sure to check out our photo gallery to see more pictures of black bears our hunters have harvested! Please remember that there are a limited amount of permits available, so bookings are done on a first come, first served basis.
